Character Attributes

Each character in Auto Assault has four attributes, each assigned with a number rating. Attributes can be raised sequentially each time the character gains a level (usually two attribute points to use are gained per level).

The four attributes define how well the character performs certain actions. In addition, the particular class of the character is dependent on two of these attributes, and are listed as the Primary and Secondary attribute. For instance, a Human Commando is primarily dependent on the Combat attribute, and somewhat dependent on the Tech attribute. However, a Mutant Avenger would be mostly dependent on Perception, and somewhat dependent on Combat.

Here are the four attributes:

  • Combat - Influences the character's fighting and driving capability, and affects accuracy and ability to inflict damage.
  • Tech - Reflects practical knowledge; affects the ability to repair yourself (and others).
  • Theory - Indicates a higher level of intelligence and education. Influences special power and mental capabilities.
  • Perception - Awareness of the environment around you. Affects your chance to get a critical hit, ability to take damage, and detection skills.

Skills

Skills are special abilities the player can use out in the wastelands. There are two sets of skill trees, one that all members of the race can use – Faction Skills – and one geared specifically towards the player's class - the Specialty Skills. Each skill tree has three lines of training, generally representing different areas of expertise.

At every fifth level of experience gained in the class, a new rank of skills is made available for purchase in the skill tree. For instance, at level 1 generally the first row (or rank) of skills is available for purchase and advancement. At level 5, the next row is available; at level 10, a third row becomes available, and so on.

Individual skills are advanced by spending skill points, which are acquired via leveling and as rewards for some missions. Currently two skill points (SPs) are awarded for each gain in level. Most skills can be advanced multiple times; each time a skill is advanced, it costs more SPs to do so. The skill becomes much more effective as a result. Additionally, skills that are available at the higher ranks typically cost more SPs to acquire.

Skills are essentially what makes the factions and classes unique – these abilities run the gamut of direct damage attacks, defensive measures, area-effect weapons, stealth, speed, team-oriented effects, ally summoning, repair, and so much more. Some skills are passive, that is, they are automatic and do not require any special activation nor do they last for a finite amount of time. Other skills may only last a few seconds and require a set “recharge” time before they can be used again. Some offensive skills do a specific amount of damage to an opponent, or may splash damage over a group of opponents in a wide area. Other combat skills serve to slow down or otherwise hinder opponents. Those in the leadership classes can use skills to summon and control allies to help them in battle.

Faction Classes - Skills & Attributes

Each Faction has four specific professions that share the same pool of Faction Skills in addition to specific Specialty Skills unique only to them.
